Assignment # 4: Displaying

I am thinking I want to create a 3D box, or some sort of shape, that suspends a deck of cards in the middle of it. Along the sides there will be slots were all of the other cards can be put on display for customers to pick up and take. I would have the front displayed in the middle of the 3D shaped container as well as the back of the cards, but using 2 different decks so you can see both sides at once. I'm not sure what I will use to keep the decks suspended in the air, but I'm sure something will come to mind.

The suspending in the air idea, went out the window because it wasn't a good way to display alot of cards. It was becoming to complicated and it was getting away from the main idea of being elegant and having the suit be the main idea that ties this project together. So now I have decided to use a closet as my main idea and design one that holds my deck of cards. I want it to have a sliding door rather then one that opens up right at you.

I want it to be something like this.\

After trying to come up with a design for my project I ended up coming up with this

You can put the cards inside the closet like display to put the deck of Mr. Black suit cards inside. I tried my best to get the closet feeling to incorporate with the design of my cards so it would relate and I think I made sense. I felt like the wood that I choose to use gave it a better closet feel rather then using something like chip board or foam core. All in all this is my closet display.

Assignment #3: Packaging

I pretty much already started this assignment by creating a box for the last assignment. After getting feed back from the last critique we had I definitely want to make this next project to be a regular size card box. If not a box I want to try and come up with a unique shape that still ties into my theme of professionals playing with my cards to become the best. A briefcase is what instantly came to mind. Also had thoughts about how people fold suits when they travel. Making one of these things into a card container could be interesting. Or I could simply design a better box, and give examples of the different color schemes that I want to use. So far I have come up with 4 different looks for how my packaging could go. My favorite one is the Mr. Blacks box with the Best stamped in the bottom right corner. The idea of having a mini briefcase with a handle holding the cards is my other favorite as well. Now I'm torn as to which one I will pick for my final choice.

I decided to choose this one. However after our 2nd crit I was told that grey was taking away from the professional/sharp feeling i was going for. So I re thought about my design and came up with this.
I am going to cut out the design and fold it into a box around some chip board, or i will use a stronger piece of paper that I can just print out and use all together so I dont have to glue the paper onto something. I took the best stamp completely out. It seemed like a distraction that didnt fit. So I changed the theme and just created a Mr. Blacks which is the brand of the cards. Its also a guy who is put together, doesnt lose, hes the best. To be the best and be like Mr. Blacks you buy the cards. Hes the man everyone should want to be basically.

Assignment #1: Post Card

I was asked to pick a piece of paper out of a bowl. So I did, and when I opened it up it said printed media. First thing that came to mind was newspaper. Newspaper newspaper. If I thought about it that fast I'm sure everybody else did to. So i decided not to do it. I don' like being like everyone else. So I decided to do a deck of cards. I layed a deck out in front of me and I had no ideas. So I began to cut them in half. Then I got an idea to past them back together but with a different card. Once the entire card was filled up I realized there was an open border around them that I didn't like, and one of my cards got bent on accident. Just before I went to fix the card I kind of liked the bent idea so I left it like that, put on more cards, and then bent those as well so that it looked as if the cards were coming up out of the card.
